When I decided to get into politics and run for Town Council, I never imagined it would last 18 years, with 3 terms as a Councillor and another 8 years serving as your Mayor.
I want to thank the citizens of Raymond for standing by me, supporting me, and helping to shape Raymond into the special town that it is today. The goal has always been to keep Raymond a simple, safe and family-oriented community and continue with the values that this town was founded on.
I am proud to have been part of so many great projects over the last 18 years. From the new swimming pool in my first term, the building of both Victoria Park and Centennial Park, the development and paving of our walking trail, the extension of Highway 845 and the building of our new rodeo grounds have continued the tradition of Raymond as a sports and recreation town. From spearheading the Bucking Horse Statue to honour our past and working on the building of our new High School, I feel Raymond has continued to build a legacy that will be enjoyed by future generations of Raymondites. What this town has to offer gives us the Raymond Advantage!
Meeting with MPs, MLAs, Provincial Ministers, the Premier, and other Mayors throughout the Province has been a highlight for me as your Mayor, and I’m proud to have represented this great town of Raymond. Maybe “Everybody Doesn’t Love Raymond” like we do, but they sure know who we are!
I have had the privilege of working with so many great people over the years. I am going to miss hearing your concerns and advocating on your behalf. As I drive around town seeing all of the new growth, I am proud of what we have been able to develop together and happy with where things are going. I wish the best to the new council and Mayor as they continue where we have left off.
Thank you again for electing me as your Mayor. I have enjoyed it immensely.
Mayor Jim Depew
