In 2023, the Province of Alberta and the Town of Raymond partnered to fund the pavement of Highway 845 and the extension of our municipal pathway network. This project allowed the Town to change our designated Truck Route to move heavy trucks from off municipal roadways and onto Provincial Highways as much as possible. In the next 2-5 years, east/west traffic will continue to increase as the new Raymond High School located at Victoria Sports Park is completed, along with other anticipated residential and non-residential development adjacent to Victoria Sports Park and throughout the rest of the community.

The Traffic Impact Assessments related to these new developments indicated that as time went on and as traffic increased, certain intersections would fail to meet acceptable traffic standards and that capital improvements would need to be made to better facilitate the increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic. We have also had concerns expressed by the RCMP, Ridge Regional Public Safety Services Commission, heavy truck drivers and residents that seemed to validate this data.

As a result, the Town will be changing how this intersection operates in the spring of 2025. East/West traffic along Highway 52 will now be given priority over North/South traffic along Broadway St and the stop signs will be moved to stop north/southbound traffic along Broadway St. A concrete median will be installed around the statue and there will be 4, large, flashing stop signs installed along Broadway to help drivers adjust to the significant change at Raymond’s busiest intersection. Turning lanes will be painted to manage traffic buildup along Broadway and to enhance the efficiency of this intersection.
