Who pays for curbside recycling?

Alberta is transitioning to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), a new recycling framework that shifts the financial and operational responsibility for residential recycling programs to producers. Producers are the companies that supply packaging and paper products, including many of the brands and retailers Albertans use every day.

Under this new system, producers are responsible for funding residential recycling services. This means municipalities and taxpayers will no longer pay for these services.
