Mosquito Management in Our Community
Mosquito season is here, and the Town of Raymond is taking proactive steps to help keep our community comfortable and safe.
From May to September, Town crews monitor and treat known mosquito breeding areas to reduce nuisance mosquitoes and help lower the risk of West Nile virus. The Town no longer fogs for mosquitoes because the product previously used for broadcast fogging is no longer manufactured or available for use in Canada. Instead, we use a targeted approach that focuses on treating mosquito larvae before they become adults.
Spraying on private property is still an option and can be completed by homeowners or licensed applicators using residential-grade products, following all label instructions. However, it is important to note this is different from the Town’s former fogging program, which used a specialized vehicle-based application method to treat large areas.
Residents can also help by removing standing water around their property, preventing stagnant water from collecting in yards, and ensuring grass is cut regularly.
