Council Preview: Monday, June 8
Council will meet on Monday, June 8, to consider several bylaws and policies that support community planning, governance, and service delivery. The following is an overview of key items on the agenda.
Bylaws for First Reading:
- Bylaw No. 1165-26: Aspen Pointe Land Use Bylaw Amendment
- Council will consider updates to the Direct Control regulations for the Aspen Pointe development. These updates would remove the requirement for a Homeowners Association. They would also add flexibility for fencing, landscaping, and residential design guidelines.
- Bylaw No. 1166-26: Land Use Bylaw Amendment
- A proposal before Council would change the land use designation for one parcel. The site would shift from Urban Reserve (UR-1) to Parks & Open Space (POS-1).
- Bylaw No. 1168-26: Community Standards Bylaw
- This bylaw brings several existing Town bylaws into one document. It also sets out community standards for boulevard and lane maintenance. Additional standards address noise, dangerous properties, and unsightly properties.
Policies for Approval:
- GP-2026-02: Office Hours Policy
- The proposed policy sets regular operating hours for the Town Office. It also identifies when service levels may change due to operational needs.
- GP-2026-03: Community Funding and Grants Policy
- Council combines the Council Contributions Policy and Community Grants Policy into one framework. This approach creates a consistent funding process. It also sets clear guidelines for distributing public funds. These funds support community organizations and local projects.
- GP-2026-06: Community Recognition & Symbolic Expression Policy
- Council will also review a policy that combines the Public Proclamation and Flag Policies. This policy sets fair and consistent guidelines for proclamations and flag use. It also ensures a neutral approach to symbolic expression.
Community members can follow the discussion as Council reviews these items. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 8, and members of the public are welcome to attend in person or watch live on the Town’s YouTube channel. Council agendas and meeting materials are available here.
