Sidewalks, Walkways, and Pathways

Keeping sidewalks and pathways safe is a shared responsibility between the Town and residents.

TOWN RESPONSIBILITIES

The Town clears and treats snow and ice from:

  • Sidewalks near Town facilities
  • Parks, pathways, and public walking trails

These areas are typically cleared within 48 hours after snowfall of 5 cm or more, depending on conditions.

Resident responsibilities

Property owners are responsible for clearing snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property.

  • Sidewalks must be cleared within 48 hours after snowfall ends
  • Snow must not be pushed onto roads or public walkways
  • This helps keep routes safe for pedestrians and emergency access

If sidewalks are not cleared, the Town may complete the work and recover costs from the property owner in accordance with Town bylaws.
