The Town’s historic resources committee has been actively preserving Raymond’s history for years, and Historical designation represents the culmination of their work. Formed in 2012, the group’s first activity was to advise and participate in the creation of a Town Historical Context Paper. The group then selected 17 sites identified in the Paper to create the town’s first Historic Resources Inventory. Central to the inventory process is a Statement of Significance (SOS), which contains all the character defining elements for a given property. The SOS informs the registry bylaw, which guides the homeowner and Town officials through resource preservation. Earlier this year, the Town Hall (Museum) was the first property to receive designation.
