Transfer Station Redevelopment

Over the last year, Council has been working with engineering firms to develop a more functional transfer station.  Cost estimates came in at around $4 million dollars to completely move and redevelop a new station.  From these discussions an alternative approach was brought to Council by Administration in which the Transfer station, with minor modifications could support current and future demand by relocating the main entrance to the facility and by offering additional services.

Under the new proposal, the transfer station would offer an after hours collection site, recycling services and could be opened up for non-residential waste.  Residents who could not make it during regular business hours, would be able to drop off their waste or recycling into designated areas of the transfer station 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Town crews would then empty out the after hours collection bays each morning and open up the rest of the expanded transfer station to residents during the regular Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday schedule.  The ability to operate the transfer station has become possible due to the automated garbage collection system the Town will be switching to during the next few months.  Please watch the video found at the link below and comment on this proposal in our Ideas Forum, which can be found on the right hand of our home page.
